Greenville, SC, 1929
• Newspapers reported that a crowd of more than 20,000 people came out to witness the National Air Tour land at the Municipal Airport. While the streets were flooded with traffic, congestion was kept to a minimum. • The city celebrated the Tour’s arrival with an informal dinner and dance at the Poinsett Hotel. It included musical entertainment from the Greenville Quartet, Miss Ardelle Haynes dancing to the tune of “The Breakaway,” and Misses Mildred Cook and Alice Gleason singing “Whoopee” and “That’s You, Baby.” |
